"Proyecto Renacer" means project rebirth and was created by two brothers to provide economic opportunities to the community of La Sierra. La Sierra was one of those Medellin neighborhoods you think about watching the Pablo Escobar series on Netflix, and until around recently it was a very unsafe place to venture into. However the land is fertile and due to the violent past no big industrial players went into the area and the coffee varieties remained traditional like Pajarito, tabi, and bourbon, rather than the industrial Castillo and Colombia. Currently, projecto renacer is an experimental development center where unique and exotic fermentation recipes are created. With their core "recipes" (red bomb 120 hours, tropical summer 170 hours, very berry 300 hours) they are able to provide significantly better pay to the neighborhood while breaking the status quo and pushing boundaries on fermentation limits.
